Bob’s Pickup & Delivery, Inc. signs definitive agreement to be purchased by Old Dominion Freight Lines

Randy, Raymond and their father, Robert (Bob) Bell , Owners, Bob’s Pickup & Delivery, Inc. announced today that Old Dominion Freight Lines, Inc., headquartered in Thomasville , NC would purchase selected assets of Bob’s Pickup & Delivery headquartered in Sidney , MT.   They currently have thirteen terminals in Billings , Bozeman , Butte , Glendive, Great Falls , Havre, Helena , Kalispell, Lewistown, Miles City , Missoula , Sidney Montana and Bismarck , ND .

Effective Friday, February 15, 2008, Old Dominion will add to its current route structure the twelve Bob’s terminal operations in the state of Montana and combine the Bismarck , ND facility: thus increasing the ODFL network to 204 service centers.  Through the acquisition, Old Dominion Freight Line will now provide direct coverage to every state in the Continental United States.

The Bell ’s stated “Since 1980, our family has been involved in regional LTL Transportation and we were committed to providing customers with the most reliable overnight and second day transportation service in Montana and North Dakota .  We have thoroughly enjoyed our years in the freight industry.  This decision was not an easy one for us to make.  As we discussed our options we had to decide if we were going to join forces or compete with another national carrier. In looking out for the future of our employees and customers the doors kept opening for us to join forces. The fact that a large percentage of employees will be able to stay on with OD was important to us.  We also wanted to make sure that our customer’s transportation needs would be taken care of.  In order for Bob’s to remain competitive we would have had to expand to larger cities.  This would have required a tremendous investment in equipment, personnel, and technology.  We believe this transaction with Old Dominion Freight Line presents tremendous opportunity for our customers and employees.  We were impressed with the “family culture” at Old Dominion, and together we share many similarities of family run transportation companies.”

Earl E. Congdon, Executive Chairman of the Board of Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc, said, “Bob’s is a very well-run company with a strong franchise in Montana and the   Bismarck, ND market and they have built an excellent reputation for providing quality transportation service. The move is consistent with our growth and service strategy, and is also consistent in keeping with our focus of building a world-class multi-regional and national network.”

“Old Dominion will now provide direct coverage to 48 states with 100% full state coverage to 39 states.  We currently offer high quality regional and inter-regional service within and between the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Central States , Gulf States and Western areas of the United States .  This transaction enhances our current nationwide service offering and provides our customers with 100% full state coverage to Montana . Old Dominion customers will receive improvements to an already comprehensive OD-Domestic product offering with the additional direct service offering.”

“We plan to continue the quality intrastate and interstate service that Bob’s Pickup & Delivery has provided its customers and we will be focused on continuously improving the service product. In addition, we are committed to providing our new customers “Best-in-Class” inter-regional service, as well as, our added value products that include time definite OD-Expedited Service, international service within our OD-Global division, and high-speed state of the art OD-Technology services.”
